Given below is the letter that the great missionary to South Africa, Dr. David Livingstone wrote to his son. The instructions contained in it encourage us that we can find safety nowhere else in the world, but in the arms of our heavenly Father. "London, 2nd February, 1858 -- My Dear Tom, I am soon going off from this country, and wilt leave you to the care of Him who neither slumbers nor sleeps, and never disappointed anyone who put his trust in Him. If you make Him your friend, He will be better to you than any companion can be. He is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. May He grant you grace to seek Him and to serve Him. I have nothing better to say to you than to take God for your Father, Jesus for your Savior, and the Holy Spirit for your Sanctifier. Do this and you are safe forever. No evil can then befall you. Hope you will learn quickly and well, so as to be fitted for God's service in the world." Fanny Crossby wrote this famous hymn which exemplifies the safety that we can enjoy in Jesus - Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe on His gentle breast; There by His love o’ershaded, Sweetly my soul shall rest. Safe in the arms of Jesus, Safe from corroding care, Safe from the world’s temptations; Sin cannot harm me there. Free from the blight of sorrow, Free from my doubts and fears.

Dear friends, how comforting it is to know that our Father in heaven keeps watch over us all the time, and sees to it that no harm befalls us; Jesus the Son saves us from the guilt of sin and gives grace to hate it; the Spirit of God helps us to keep away from evil and stay pure. O, what a great assurance of safety! As believing parents, let us teach our children just as Dr. David Livingstone did.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, it is so wonderful a privilege to know that You keep watch over us always, that Jesus saves us from the guilt of our sin and also gives grace to resist sin, and that the Holy Spirit helps us to keep away from evil and be like what You want us to be. Thank You. Amen.
