Saturday, February 28 || BE CAREFUL TO OBEY THE LORD AT ALL TIMES!

“Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that it may go

well with you. ...” - Deuteronomy 6:18

When the Israelites arrived at Kadesh, there was no water for them. So they quarrelled with Moses, complaining and mourning over the situation. When Moses and Aaron heard this, they were greatly distressed because they had just lost their own beloved sister Miriam. Because of this, their hearts were burdened with sorrow. And the Israelites provoked them further by their rebellious attitude. So when the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water,” Moses, who was already provoked in his spirit, instead of speaking to the rock, struck the rock twice with his staff. He also spoke angrily to the people, calling them “rebels,” and he gave the impression that he and Aaron supplied them the water! (Numbers 20:10,11) Inspite of this, God graciously supplied an abundance of water for His thirsty people. Yet, He disciplined His servant. He told him, “Because you did not trust me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” “What a terrible punishment for Moses!” we may think. But we should remember that our Lord is a jealous God. (Deuteronomy 4:24) He is jealous over His people the way a husband is jealous over his wife or a mother over her children. He wants the very best of us, but when we deliberately go our own way and grieve His heart, we will lose all He wants to do for us.

Dear friends, let us be careful to obey the Lord and please Him in all that we do in order to enjoy His blessings in our life.

PRAYER: Almighty God, how sad it is to read that Moses, who was called by You earlier, lost the privilege of entering the Promised Land because of his one single act of disobedience. Let me be careful to obey You in all situations and let me not deliberately sin against You at any cost. In Jesus’ name.Amen.
