Saturday, February 22 || ANGEL SHUT THE MOUTHS OF LIONS!

Read : Daniel 6: 1-24

“Daniel answered, “O king live forever! My God sent His angel, and He shut the mouths of the lions. ...” - Daniel 6:21-22

When the enemies of Daniel wanted to persecute him, the king ordered that Daniel be lowered down into the lion’s den. When the officers executed the orders and put Daniel into the den, the king became restless. He was greatly distressed and wanted to rescue Daniel. He desperately made every effort to save him till the sun went down. In verse 18, we read that he spent that whole night without food and sleep. The next day, early in the morning, he got up and went straight to the den. He believed Daniel’s God would have surely saved him miraculously. So, expecting a reply, he called out, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually been able to rescue you from the lions?” When Daniel replied, the king’s heart leaped with joy to hear his voice.

Dear friends, when we recall this story, we can appreciate that most of the times we also are placed in similar situations as Daniel. When we decide to stand firm for the Lord, Satan dislikes our commitment and so he rises up people and invents many plans to harm us. Our heavenly Father, however, watches over us affectionately. More than the King Darius was concerned for Daniel, the Lord shows His concern for us. He will never allow Satan or the people to harm us, though sometimes He permits them for a certain time, as He did in the case of Job. But remember that the Lord took care of Job in all his afflictions and brought him out victoriously. So, let us stand firm in our faith and hold on to our God. And we can also declare like Daniel, “God sent His angel, and He shut the mouths of the lions." The victory will always be ours through Jesus Christ our Lord.

PRAYER: Lord, when I decide to live for You, my enemies gloat over me and try to destroy me. But, still I want to serve you continually in spite of their evil thoughts and plans. I look unto You for protection. Guard me and save me. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. Amen.
