Read : Exodus 16: 1-5
“... Moses said to them, “It is the bread the Lord has given you
to eat.” - Exodus 16: 15
When the people of Israel reached the Desert of Sin, they were unable to find food. The hot, barren wasteland offered nothing that would sustain a multitude of people. But God graciously supplied a heavenly food that looked like a dewdrop, which the people called “manna.” The Israelites had to go out each day and gather enough manna for the day. The Lord told them, “In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.” (Exodus 16: 4) The reason God gave manna to the children of Israel was not merely to feed them. The primary intent of the provision of manna was to teach God’s people to depend upon God and upon His Word. It showed a matter of their dependence upon the Lord. It was a faith test.
Dear friends, feeding on Jesus daily is a faith test for us and it shows our dependence upon the Lord. If we do not have a “Quiet time,” it means that we have a weak faith and that we are self-sufficient. Charles Spurgeon said, “Morning is the fittest time for conversation with God. An hour in the morning is worth two in the evening. While the dew is on the grass, let grace drop upon the soul.” Let us be careful not to rush into the day depending on our own strength and wisdom, but let us give the prime time to God fellowshipping with Him through His Word, submitting ourselves to God and trusting Him. Do we feed on God? Do we desire Him? Are we hungry for Him? Would we say, “Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more?” If not we are showing our distrust and lack of submissiveness to God, our Creator. Let us today make a decision to feed on Jesus, the Bread of Life, and His power for our daily sustenance.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, You gave manna to the Israelites, not only to meet their hunger, but to test their faith whether they believed You, and to test their obedience whether they followed Your clear instructions. Give me the desire to gather Your heavenly manna daily and submit to Your Word. Amen.
