“Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my spirit in those days. ...”  - Acts: 2:18

“The tragedy of this later hour is that we have too many dead men in the pulpit giving out too many dead sermons to too many dead people,” writes Leonard Ravenhill.  Why is there lack of life in preaching nowadays?  Because, most of the preaching is without the anointing of the Holy Spirit - without an unction (a lack of the Holy Spirit's anointing).  The Word of God does not burn in the heart of the hearers because the preachers lack anointing.  Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit just before he preached his first sermon in which three thousands were saved. (Acts 2)  Before His ministry, Jesus was anointed of the Spirit.  He was full of the Holy Spirit when He came out of river Jordan after being baptized.  Great men of God during the past were able to draw thousands of people towards Christ because they got their  “messages on their knees, soaked them with their tears, groaned over them with a travailing spirit, warmed them with strivings in prayer and then delivered their messages, warm from God’s heart.”   Their messages came out from their burning hearts to kindle fire in the hearts of the listeners.  The simple but an influential speaker John Smith said, “I am looking for deeper baptisms of the Holy Ghost.”  He urged other ministers, “Get deeper baptisms.  If we were always filled with the Holy Ghost before we got to the house of God, we should see signs and wonders.”

Dear friends, we are living in end-times.   Let us pray that the Lord should raise up Spirit-filled preachers who would challenge the church of its sinful state.  Let the sermons that come from the hearts of such Spirit-filled, praying preachers kindle the fire which lies dormant in the sleeping souls.  Amen.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, pour in me the spirit of prayer and supplication.  Let not our church pulpits become shop windows that display the preachers’ eloquence and talents, but let power-filled messages be delivered from them which would produce a great revival among us. In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
