“The righteous man is rescued from trouble.” - Proverbs 11: 8

Saul was pursuing David to somehow kill him and get rid of him.  But God protected David in more than one way.  First, by his most trustworthy friend, Jonathan, David was informed of the various methods that Saul employed to take his life.  As Jonathan very well knew that God had appointed David as the King of Judah, he came personally to David to encourage him to trust in the Most High and to assure that the hand of Saul would not prevail against him. (I Samuel 23: 16-18)  Earlier in I Samuel 20 we read that Jonathan interfered with his father several times, prevented him from shedding the innocent blood of David.

Next in I Samuel 23: 19-28, we read of another incident of how the Lord protected David.  The Ziphites went to Saul and revealed to him the hiding place of David.  See the providence of God exerted for the salvation of David’s life!  David and his men were almost surrounded by Saul and his army, and on the point of being taken, a messenger arrived and informed Saul that the Philistines had invaded the land!  God had already prepared the invasion of the land by the Philistines and  just in time when Saul was about to capture David, God sent Saul’s men to convey this news.  As a result, Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went back to meet the Philistines.  That place was called Sela Hammahlekoth, (I  Samuel 23: 28) which means the “rock of divisions” because the heart of Saul was “divided to go this way and that way.”  Saul was obliged to separate himself from David in order to go and oppose the invading Philistines.

Dear friends, when our ways are pleasing to God, He will protect us from our enemy, the devil and keep us safe in His dwelling place.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, it was not Your will that David should be killed by Saul. Your plan was that he should become the King of Israel, and hence You protected him from his powerful  enemy Saul. Let me not fear devil, my enemy, because You are greater than him and You will never let him touch me come what may.  Amen
