Read : Exodus 17: 8-15

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” - Ephesians 6: 11

We encounter various experiences in our spiritual life. Sometimes, we may witness great miracles of the Lord when we just cry out to Him in faith, but at other times we need to fight a great battle against Satan before receiving the blessing from the Lord. At the Red Sea, the Israelites were terrified at the sight of Pharaoh’s army which was following them. There was no way of escape for them. When they cried in despair, Moses did not command them to fight against the Egyptians, but to “stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” (Exodus 14:13) God fought for the Israelites and defeated the Pharaoh. After crossing the Red Sea, the Israelites reached Rephidim where there was no water at all. There the Lord opened a rock, provided gallons of water for all the Israelites and quenched their thirst. But then came the Amalekites to fight with them. (Exodus 17:8) Now the command for them was not to stand still. At Rephidim, the Israelites had to fight in order to win! (Verse 9)

Dear friends, the Red Sea experience of Israelites can be compared with our salvation experience. Salvation is by grace and not by works. We can do nothing to secure salvation. When we ask the Lord Jesus to enter into our hearts, He comes in, forgives our sins, and we are saved by faith. It is as simple as this. But, once having been delivered and introduced to a new life, we have to fight the good fight of faith. We are to put on the armor of God, the whole armor provided for us, to be ready for attack or defense. And let us remember that victory is always ours because our Lord is Jehovah Nissi.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, in my spiritual life, I come across various experiences.  Sometimes I overcome the attacks of Satan quite easily, some other times I fight a fierce battle to defeat him.  But I am sure of one thing, since You are Jehovah Nissi and lead the battle, I will always be a conqueror.  Amen.
