At the Cross when Jesus died, five miracles happened - darkness fell, veil tore into two, earthquake shattered, dead saints were raised and the centurion testified. Of all these, we can say that the testimony of centurion is the greatest one. This Roman centurion played a crucial role in the death of Christ. Standing at the foot of the Cross, he heard Jesus say, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” He saw the love and forgiveness Jesus had offered to the penitent thief. He witnessed the darkness that fell on the earth, and he had heard Jesus cry out, “It is finished!” More than that, unlike the criminals who cried in agony, screaming bitter oaths, Jesus died quietly as He yielded His Spirit to His Father in heaven.

All of that must have made a huge impression on the centurion. This led to his amazing statement of faith, “Truly this man was the Son of God.” The centurion realized that the Jewish leaders, high priest and the Roman officials were wrong about Jesus, whereas he was able to figure out what the Pharisees and the teachers of the law missed altogether. They saw a blasphemer, a troublemaker, but the centurion saw God.

Dear friends, that is the greatest miracle of all because it is the miracle of changed heart. It is a miracle that can happen to anyone who comes to Jesus even today. Let us ask God to open the eyes of many who still have not seen Jesus the Messiah, so that they will experience this greatest miracle of salvation.
