Read : Judges 4: 4-10

“Village life in Israel ceased, until I, Deborah, arose, arose as a mother in Israel.” - Judges 5:7

Deborah was a woman who gained respect in a male-dominated culture like that of Israel as early as 1100 BC! She called Barak, a powerful man in Israel, into her presence and commanded him to fight against their enemy, the Canaanites. That really took a tremendous amount of courage. Not only that, when Barak was hesitant to go, and asked her to accompany him, Deborah did not back down or waver in her belief. She was sure that God had called them to fight against their enemies and agreed to go with Barak. She was also wise enough to make him the Commander of the army. She gave him the battle-plan, telling him how to attack. She accompanied him to Mount Tabor, where the battle would be fought. She even told him when to engage in the battle. She gave Barak and his army the Word of God that they would win. The result was an overwhelming victory. The Lord subdued the Canaanites before the Israelites.

Dear friends, we learn many life lessons from Deborah. She went an extra mile to achieve victory for the Israelites and she stands out as one of the most remarkable leaders recorded in the Bible. When God gives us a mission, let us carry it out boldly without wavering. He will give us enough wisdom, manpower and strategy, and use us to achieve great things for the extension of His Kingdom.

PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, I am greatly motivated by Deborah, who was bold enough to lead her country in battle against the Canaanites and win a great victory.  Let me also fulfill the work that You have commissioned for me without giving room to unbelief and fear.  Amen.
