El-shaddai - The Lord Almighty

Verse: "He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; ..." (Psalm 147:4, 5)

We must be concerned more with the person and character of God, than His promises. Our basic faith must rest on the character of God. Through the words of Scripture let us see who God is. He is the Creator who is sovereign in His knowledge and in His purposes. Isaiah 40:12 says, "Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?" These questions are called rhetorical questions. These are used in Scripture in order to lead us to realize and accept the greatness of God emphatically, without giving room to any doubts. To these questions, our answer will be "No one but God." Certainly no man can measure 340 quintillion gallons of water that fill the seas of the whole earth by cupping it in his hand, or measure 200 sextillion miles of the "known" universe with the breadth of his hand, from the end of the thumb to little finger. But God is Sovereign. He is Almighty. He has full comprehension of His universe. God knows the measure of every part of His creation - every part in exact accordance with His plan in every aspect, measure or dimension.

Dear friends, when we know how great our God is, we will trust Him more and more. We will understand that nothing - absolutely nothing - is impossible with Him. He is almighty and all-powerful. Halleluiah!

Prayer: Dear Lord, no one but You can measure the waters of the oceans in the hollow of Your hand, no one but You can measure the mountains by the breadth of Your hand, no one but You can change this situation of mine though it seems impossible. I trust You and You are my God. Amen.
