“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” - Romans 3:23-24
At the Cross, God’s love and His justice meet each other. Imagine you are going very fast on a highway, breaking the speed limit, and you are caught by a policeman, who also happens to be your close friend. If the policeman lets you go without punishing you, he would fail to exercise justice and the law which he represents. So, first of all, he writes out a charge against you for speeding and charges Rs. 200/- as a fine. But then he takes out his own cheque book and makes a cheque payable to the magistrate’s court for Rs. 200/-. In his justice, the policeman had decreed the fine, and in his love he paid it himself. All you have to do is to receive the cheque and go with a grateful heart. Does not love and justice meet in his action! The same is true with the Cross of Christ.
Dear friends, on the Cross, Jesus paid the penalty we owed for our sin. He shed His blood as a ransom to save us from our sins. We should have been punished for our sins, but God, in His love, paid the price and forgave us. In the light of what God had done, what should be our response? First of all, we should repent and believe. (Mark 1:15) Repentance means a change of mind leading to a change of direction. Repentance means letting go of the sins, and believing that Jesus is the only One who can forgive us. Secondly, we should receive the forgiveness that Jesus offered on the Cross. Third, having believed in Christ and received His forgiveness, we must hand over our entire life to Him. This means making Him Lord and Master of everything. We do this as we open our hearts to Him as our friend and invite Him to come and dwell in it. PRAYER: Dear Lord, You are a righteous Judge and also a loving Father. Though I deserve punishment for all the sins that I commit, You loved me so much, that You sent Your Son Jesus to shed His blood as a ransom for me. Great is Your love! Come into my heart to be my God and Savior. Amen.
