Read : I Corinthians 9: 6-11

“... Bring an offering and come into His courts.” - Psalm 96: 8

Many times we fail to realize that God keeps a record of what we offer to Him. God has an account book for every one of us. Numbers 7, has a list of names of the leaders of twelve tribes and the gifts they offered. If we read carefully, we will find that each leader offered exactly the same, yet each of their offerings is described in detail, item by item. God did not say, “The second leader offered the same as the first” or “All the leaders offered such and such gifts.” Rather God kept an absolute record of what each leader offered. Not only that, He caused it to be preserved in the Scripture even to the minute detail, for the future generation. In Mark 12:41-44, we read another such incident. Once when Jesus was in the temple, He sat opposite to the offering box and watched everyone putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But Jesus watched a poor widow who put in two very small copper coins. He was touched by her attitude, and said to His disciples that she, who had put the least, gave the most because she had nothing left for herself!

Dear friends, the fact that God noted and recorded each name and each gift indicates two things.  Firstly, it shows the love He has personally for every believer, and that He has recorded our names individually in the heavenly register.  (Luke 10:20)  When we stand before Him, He will see us individually and reward us according to our labor. (I Corinthians 3:8) Secondly, He estimates the true value of what we offer to Him!  Someone said, “Bear in mind that when God measures what you give, He looks at what you retain for yourself.” So dear friends, let us offer God our best, not just because He watches us, but let us give with our hearts overflowing with love and gratitude to Him who has given breath in our nostrils.

PRAYER: Our heavenly Father, how awesome is the thought to me that You know me by name and You even watch every rupee that I put in the offertory bag. Let me not be stingy, but give to You generously. Let me give You the best of what I have. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
