“... Forgive your brother from your heart.” - Matthew: 18:35

There was a servant who owed the king a large amount of money - ten thousand talents. And the king ordered the servant to sell all that he had and repay the debt.  But the servant fell on his knees before the king and begged him that he would repay the amount somehow and asked for some time.  Seeing his miserable state, though the servant did not deserve forgiveness, the king forgave him. This was purely an act of the king’s love and mercy.  As soon as the servant left the king’s presence, he met his fellow servant who owed him hundred denari.  This debt was insignificant compared to what the servant owed the king.  Instead of forgiving his debt, the cruel servant mistreated him and demanded him to pay the amount.  This debtor fell at his master’s feet and pleaded him to have mercy.  But the unjust servant had the poor man put in the prison till he paid back the debt.  When the king heard that the cruel servant exercised justice and cast his fellow servant into the prison, he became very angry;  “So, do you want to live by justice?” asked the king. “Then you too shall have justice.”  “Throw this wicked man into the prison and torture him till he pays back his debts,” he ordered.

Dear friend, Warren Wiersbe writes, “The world’s worst prison is the prison of an unforgiving heart.”  If we refuse to forgive others, then we are only imprisoning ourselves and causing our own torment.  How graciously our heavenly Father has forgiven all our sins!  Having received that forgiveness in our hearts, let us be humble and gentle, and forgive all those who have wronged us.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You mercifully forgave all my sins which were as red as a scarlet and made it as white as snow.  Having received such forgiveness, let me not be hard-hearted, but let me graciously forgive from my heart all those who hurt me and harm me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
