David’s son Absalom conspired against him and planned a wonderful strategy to become the king of Israel. When David came to know of this, he and the people with him left Jerusalem, crossed the Kidron Valley and continued up to the Mount Olives. David was weeping as he went. His head was covered and he was on barefoot. The Lord saw David’s tears. He came to his rescue when he was in danger. He employed Hushai, David’s faithful servant to frustrate the plan which Ahithophel cunningly devised to kill David. Were it not for Hushai’s counsel to Absalom, David might have been slained in the wilderness! Next came Shimei’s stones! As David approached a place called Bahurim, Shimei pelted David and all the king’s officials with stones. He even degraded David saying, “Get out, get out, you man of blood, you scoundrel!” But David did not rebuke Shimei or dared to attack him. He submitted to God’s way. The Lord who was zealous for David, protected him from Shimei’s attack. Not only that, He sent people like Barzillai to David and his men, and sent them provisions of food through them. How faithfully the Lord prepared a table for David in the wilderness, even as his enemies were pursuing him!

Dear friends, that was not the end of David. The Lord judged all his enemies, brought him back to Jerusalem and made him sit on the throne once again! What a great and mighty God He is! The Lord who preserved the life of David when he was abandoned by his own son Absalom, will never leave you. He cares for you. His love and truth will always protect you.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, let my soul not be downcast to see people oppressing me mentally and physically. Help me to realize that You will never allow them to trample me down, but will surely preserve my life as You have great plans to be accomplished through me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
