Read : I Chronicles 21:18-30

“Give, and it will be given to you. ... For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” - Luke 6:38

When David approached Araunah and told him, “Let me have the site of your threshing floor. Sell it to me at the full price,” we read how generously Araunah responded. He said to David, “My Lord, the king, do whatever you see best, I give you all my wooden tools and sledge to use for fuel to offer the sacrifice in this spot. I give it all to you and to my God!” He held back nothing. He did not think that it would ruin his livelihood. There was a complete and immediate abandonment in him to the will and wish of God. It was a wholehearted relinquishment of all his possessions for the Lord. It was pure, undefiled self-sacrifice for the good of others. David, in turn, was deeply moved by Araunah’s gesture that he paid him six hundred shekels of gold. Wonder of wonders, that special spot was the very site on Mount Moriah where Abraham offered his son Isaac to God 850 years before! And it was the very spot where Solomon would later erect the most beautiful temple for the Lord! How God exalts those who honor Him!

Dear friends, let us not be stingy and selfish, but let us extend our arms wide open and give generously to the Lord. God loves a cheerful giver. Remember the poor widow who gave everything she had for the Lord and who was appreciated by Jesus. God would have certainly taken care of her future till her death.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, let me not withhold my hands while giving for You. Let me trust that You will take care of my future and my family, and that You will honor me when I give sacrificially. You are not a debtor to anyone. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
