Monday, February 16 || GIVE TO THE LORD THE VERY BEST!

“Honor the LORD with your wealth, and with the best part of

everything you produce.” - Proverbs 3:9 NLT

When Moses gave them a call to give an offering to the Lord - for the building of His tabernacle - the Israelites responded in an overwhelming manner. Exodus 35: 21 says, "Everyone who was willing and whose heart moved them came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the Tent of Meeting." The list of items they donated is given in verses 22-29. From where did they get all these items? They got them as gifts from the Egyptians before they left Egypt. (Exodus 3:22, 11:1-3) Not only that, Exodus 35:25 and 26 say that every woman who was willing and had skill, spun with their own hands blue, purple, scarlet yarns, goat hair, etc. Herbert Lockyer comments on this as follows, "These skilful women of the wheel and the spindle, with willing hearts labored as unto the Lord. They gave their treasures, time and talents ungrudgingly for the completion of the tabernacle.” The most impressing thing was the surrender on the part of these women of their most highly prized possessions namely, the beautiful, perfectly polished brass mirrors and Egyptian handicrafts. (Exodus 38:8) Moses melted down the mirrors and fashioned into the bronze basin and its stand. What a great sacrifice it is to renounce the articles associated with personal vanity, for the higher beauties of holiness by these anonymous women!

Dear friends, let us contribute generously, not only our wealth but also our time and talents for the work of our Lord. Let us be willing to give Him what we consider the precious and the best.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, Exodus 36:7 says, that the Israelites were restrained from bringing more because what they already had given was more than enough. How magnanimous were they in giving for Your work! Let me also joyfully give to You my time, talents and treasures, likewise. Amen.
