Monday, August 04 || BE CONTINUALLY FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT

“Do not get drunk with wine, ... Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

- Ephesians 5: 18

Drunken people and Spirit-filled people have one thing in common - they are both “controlled” people. Their lives and behaviour are radically changed by what fills them. Paul is saying here to cast off the dirty garments of the old man, stop living under the influence of flesh, instead be continually living under the controlling influence of the Holy Spirit. How important it is for us to be continually yielding to Him and continually allowing Him to guide our steps! But how can we do this? It is by constantly saying to the Lord, “Yes, Lord.” It is being controlled moment by moment by His Spirit. It is being constantly aware of His presence in our life, practicing the presence of Christ as we are willing to yield to whatever His will is in our life.

Not only must the Holy Spirit be in us as “Resident” but He needs to be in us as “President.”  
He should come not only to “abide,” but to “preside” in us.  
The Holy Spirit who is “dormant” needs to become “dominant,” and 
He needs to become prominent.  
We need to yield to the Holy Spirit so that He can express the life of Christ through us.  It is not like filling the  bottle with a substance, but it is like handing over the keys of a house to another person.  D.L. Moody said, “Given that His filling is commanded by God, if you are not being continually filled with the Spirit, then you are out of God’s will.”  

Dear friends, who or what is in control of our life?  It should either be the Holy Spirit or the flesh.  Let us die to self and depend on the Spirit.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, fill me now with Your Spirit. Flood my whole being with rivers divine, strengthen, help, and empower me to overcome the flesh. Let me not grieve, or quench the Holy Spirit. Let me yield myself fully to the leading of Your Spirit always. Amen.
