Read : Isaiah 64: 5-9

“... The blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” - I John 1: 7

Isaiah 64: 6 says that in the eyes of God, our righteous acts are like “filthy rags.” The following illustration will make us understand this better - Imagine taking your best dress and dragging it through the mud. Then you wear that dress and go to the most sophisticated restaurant in the city. No doubt, you will be turned away immediately even as you go to the main door! This is how God feels when we stand before Him dressed in our own righteous deeds. Our righteousness looks good to us, but it is like filth soaked dress in His eyes!

So dear friends, what does it mean to be righteous in God’s sight? We are lost in our sins and we have no idea of how sinful we really are. When we look into our own souls, we see only that sin that lies on the surface. But when God looks at us, all He sees is our sins - only our sins! And what we call righteousness, He calls filthy rags. But when we trust Jesus the Lamb of God, who was crucified for us, and are washed by His blood, then when God looks down from heaven, He sees us spotless and declares us righteous. This is the basis of the radical change in the life of the believer. God imparts to us the very life of the Lamb of God so that we now share in the life of Jesus Christ Himself. How does this great blessing come to us? Not by anything we could ever do, but simply and only by faith in the crucified Lamb of God.
