"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may
receive mercy ..." - Hebrews 4:16
We live in hard days. Many, especially believers, undergo severe trials and great hardships. Paul went through a great affliction in which he and his companions were burdened excessively beyond their own strength, to the point they despaired even of life. At that time, Paul made a bold statement about his confidence in the Lord. “This happened that we might not rely on ourselves, but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. On Him we have set our hope that He will continue to deliver us.” (II Corinthians 1:9-10) In Paul’s case, his life was in danger. While that may or may not be the case with us, the lesson remains the same - that is, great trials and pressures in our lives have the potential to make us rely more upon the Lord than ever before. “When all of the props in our lives get knocked down, including our own self-sufficiency, we are perhaps as humble and open as ever to depend on the Lord and His resources”, writes Rich Carmichael.
So dear friends, when we go through great trials and face pressures in life, let us not become weary, but let us lean on God entirely. Only then, we will discover how faithful He is to provide the help that we need to sustain ourselves and also overcome the situation. Besides, when we fix our gaze wholly upon Him, then we will discover more fully how absolutely sufficient He is to deliver us. Even if it is very unpleasant, there is a precious purpose in all our trials to bring us close to God. Isn’t it a great privilege?PRAYER: Dear Lord, when I face pressures and problems too much to bear, let me not become weary, but let me make all efforts to rely on You completely. By this let me experience how absolutely sufficient You are to deliver me from my problems. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
