Saturday, July 11 Read: John 10: 7-15
Verse: "... I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." - John 10:10
(NKJV)Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones says that people commonly view Christianity as a prison cell, in which one is chained to laws and moral restrictions that steal their very life. They see Christian life as negative, narrow and restrictive. But Jesus says the exact opposite. He says in John 10:10 that the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. But He has come to give life, and to give it abundantly. Jesus was primarily referring here to false religious leaders, the Pharisees. But behind all the world's deception is the great deceiver, thief, murderer and destroyer - Satan the devil. "The whole world is under the control of the evil one." (I John 5:19) How does Satan steal, kill and destroy? He can steal our more precious commodity - time spent in prayer and meditation with our Lord. He can destroy loving and caring relationships among individuals and families by breeding competition, greed, and strife. In contrast, God, through Jesus, offers us so much more, both in this present physical life and the life to come. For God's desire for us is not for calamity as Satan's plans are, but to give us an abundant life now and a hope for the future. Jesus came to give us rest and rejuvenation from the cares and stresses of daily living. (Matthew 11: 28-30) He also assures us that He will be with us always, to carry us through life's storms.
Dear friends, we can take this life of peace, security and abundance that Christ has offered, or we can leave it for Satan to rob us of the purpose of our very existence and ruin us. The choice is ours. Let us choose not to compromise with the world and lose the eternal blessings.
Prayer: Dear Lord, every word Jesus spoke when He was on earth was filled with meaning and application, and John 10:10 is no exception. Let me not stray away saying Christian life is a prison cell, full of restrictions, and fall into Satan's trap. Let me choose the life that Jesus offers - the life of rest, peace and eternal joy. Amen.
