Holy Spirit And His Attributes

Verse: "... He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth." (John 14:16)

Many believers these days have a distorted view of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a Person. He is not a divine force or power. The Holy Spirit speaks. He told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it". (Acts 8:29) The Holy Spirit commissions. Acts 13:4 says that Paul and Barnabas were sent by the Holy Spirit to Seleucia and from there to Cyprus to minister there. The Holy Spirit forbids. Acts 16:6 says that Paul and his companions were kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the Word in the province of Asia. The Holy Spirit intercedes. Romans 8:26 says, "The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express". The Holy Spirit guides. John 16:13 says, "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth". The Holy Spirit dwells in the believer. By the Holy Spirit who resides in us, God has poured out His love into our hearts. (Romans 5:5) His very name is Holy Spirit and so He cannot tolerate any sin. In Acts 5, we read of how Ananias and Sapphira who lied to the Holy Spirit were judged by the Lord severely.

Dear friends, doesn't it astound us to know that such a pure, holy and awesome Spirit of God lives inside us, who have accepted Jesus as our Savior! I Corinthians 6:19 says that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, whom we have received from God. So let us pay heed to His voice always and lead holy lives.

Prayer : Lord, I thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to be with me forever. Thank You for filling me with the Holy Spirit who counsels me, guides me and intercedes for me. Let me obey the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit and let me not grieve Him by my rebelliousness. Amen.
