GOD USES INADEQUATE PEOPLE

Thursday, June 11 Read: Luke 9: 10-17

“He replied, “You give them something to eat.” They answered: “We have

only five loaves of bread and two fish.” - Luke 9: 13

The manner in which Jesus performed this miracle is significant. He could have called down manna from heaven, or He could have spoken the Word, and a loaf of bread would have miraculously appeared in each person’s hand. But He multiplied five loaves of bread and two fish, and used His disciples to distribute them to the people. Christ meets the needs of people through people. But note carefully the kind of people He uses - inadequate people! Vance Havner observed, “God uses broken things. It takes broken soil to produce a crop, broken clouds to give rain, broken grain to give bread.”

D.L. Moody was a man whom God greatly used. Thousands of people met the Savior through his tireless labor. But humanly speaking, Moody was a very inadequate man. He had little formal education. When he was working in a store, a Sunday School teacher introduced Jesus to him, and Moody accepted Him as his Savior. After work, he began to go out to slums and gather poor children to bring them to Sunday School. Moody told, “I have only one talent. I have no education, but I love the Lord Jesus. I want to do something for Him.”

Dear friends, God may not call us to preach to thousands as Moody did. But He calls us to give the bread of life to the spiritually hungry. He needs us just as we are, with our inadequacies. Let us yield ourselves to Him to be used by Him as He desires.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I yield my inadequacy to You. Use it as You please. Five small loaves and two fish is not much to feed a great crowd. Yet You multiplied it and fed the hungry. Let me bring my inadequate resources and abilities to You, and see the insufficient becoming more than sufficient by Your power. Amen.
