Friday, June 05 Read: Nahum 1: 1-8

“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those

who trust in Him.”- Nahum 1:7 - KJV

The book of Nahum is a message of God’s judgment upon the city of Nineveh. Approximately 100 years earlier, God sent Jonah with a message of warning to this city - that unless they repented within 40 day, the city will be destroyed. The people of Nineveh did repent and God spared the city. However, the city became more wicked and vile, and through the prophet Nahum, God pronounced final judgment upon Nineveh. Soon the city was totally destroyed by the Babylonians. Nahum 1:7 is a beautiful verse, which emphasizes the goodness of God, and it is amazing to see that this occurs as a sandwich between verses 6 and 8, which tell of God’s wrath and judgment.

First in verse 7, we see a picture of God’s Person and His unchanging character. This reminds us that God is good whatever be the situation. In Malachi 3:6, He says, “I the Lord do not change.” James 1: 17 says, “He does not change like shifting shadows.”

Second, we see God’s protection. He is our refuge, our stronghold, and our impregnable fortress in the day of trouble. This gives us the confidence that God will never fail us when we run to Him for help.

Third, we see God’s perception. He knows those who trust in Him. This gives us an unshakeable consolation. God knows all about us. He knows our prayers, our tears, our aspirations, our secret longings, and He has all under control.

Dear friends, whatever we face today, let us be confident that God takes care of everything when we trust Him. He takes care of us. We are His property! And He will never abandon us.

Dear Lord, thank You for reminding me today that You are a good God. You never change even when everything changes. You know me. You know my fears, my heartaches and my trials. Help me to trust You to give me strength in time of weakness, hope in time of despair and victory when I feel defeated. Amen.
