Read : Ephesians 3: 14-21
“... Three times a day he (Daniel) got down on his knees and prayed. ...”
-Daniel 6: 10

In the Bible we read about many godly people, who expressed their reverence and submission to God by assuming the kneeling position. In the Garden of Gethsemane, when the Lord Jesus Christ was approaching the dreadful hour of crucification, He knelt down and prayed. (Luke 22: 41) He was alone with His Father and there in His presence, Jesus knelt down! Likewise when we go alone to be with the Lord in prayer, we too can express our reverence to Him and our commitment to His will by kneeling as we pray. When the Apostle Paul was nearing the end of his public ministry, he desired to say good bye to the Church that he had established at Ephesus. We read, how he knelt down and prayed with all of them (Acts 20:36), on the sea shore at another time, we read that Paul along with the disciples and their wives and children knelt down and prayed. (Acts 21:5) Many today think that kneeling down to pray in public place would degrade them. Obviously, the disciples along with the women and children of Paul’s day had no such problem. Neither should we, whether we are in a public prayer meeting or whether we are alone with God.
Dear friends, because of certain physical problems it may be impossible for some people to kneel for an extended period of prayer. God sees our hearts. Whether we stand, sit or walk, when we pray, the important thing that matters to Him is our attitude. James 4:6-7 says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, then, to God.” But for those who are able, kneeling can be a very helpful way of praying to God with reverence.
PRAYER: Almighty God, though the Bible does not insist that I should kneel down whenever I pray, I want to give You honor and respect by praying in a kneeling position. Let me not feel ashamed to kneel down and pray in public, but let me feel privileged to do so. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
