“(Be)... blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.”

- Philippians 2:15

The last command which Jesus gave His disciples was to preach the gospel throughout the world. Accordingly, they went in different directions and proclaimed the Word. And Thomas was the one who came to India as a missionary carrying the gospel of Christ. These men of God and those who came after them were able to draw the unsaved souls to Christ by their simple and sincere lifestyle. They not only preached the Word, but lived according to it.

For example - Bishop Paulinus - In the year 625, Princess Ethelburga, sister of the King of Kent was to be married to King Edwin of Northumbria and it was agreed that Bishop Paulinus would travel with her. This arrangement was made because the people of Northumbria still worshipped the gods of the Anglo Saxon people, and the new Queen needed the guidance and support of the Bishop. For Paulinus, it was a golden opportunity to preach the gospel to those around him. Much of his teaching was done by his example. He lived literally according to Titus 1:7-9 - the qualities that Paul prescribed for a bishop. The Lord blessed his efforts, and on the eve of Easter, Paulinus not only baptized King Edwin into the Christian faith, but many of his nobles too.

Dear friends, are we living an exemplary life among people of other faiths? Do we walk what we talk? If we have a poor witnessing life, we would only divert people away from Cross. So, let us be careful to use every opportunity given to us by the Lord - to speak kindly, act wisely and stand true to our faith - so that we may show ourselves to be true children of our Father in heaven.

PRAYER: Almighty God, we praise You for all those godly men who not only preached the Word, but practised it in their lives too. This was instrumental in attracting men towards Christ. Let me live a witnessing life, realizing the great responsibility given to me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
