“... Purify your hearts, ...” - James 4:8

Jeremiah says in Chapter 17, verse 9, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Yes. Our heart is full of evil and wicked thoughts, which none can find out except the Lord. Psalm 44:21 says, “God knows the secrets of the heart.” In Jeremiah 17:10, the Lord says, “I, the Lord search the heart and examine the mind.” In Revelation 2:23, Jesus warned the Church, “I am He who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.” Having known this great truth, how careful should our attitude be! How pure our thoughts should be! It is very clear that we can never think of deceiving God because everything lies bare and naked before Him. So let us put off our old self which is corrupted with all its deceitful desires. Let us put away falsehood, anger, malice, slander, envy, hypocrisy, pride and other wicked thoughts from our minds. Let us put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Let us be made new in the attitude of our minds. II Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone and the new has come,” and so let us seek the grace of God everyday to live as new creations. Let us ask like David, “Create in me a pure heart, O Lord.” The Lord says in Ezekiel 36:25,26, “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove from you, your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

So dear friends, as we are living in the last days, as the coming of our Lord would be at any time, let us not procrastinate but ask God right now to purify our hearts.

PRAYER: Father, in my arrogance let me not think as I like, and live as I like. Let me have the fear that You know even my inner most secret thought and You will judge me according to my deed. I plead that You cleanse my heart now and remove all my iniquities. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
