Friday, July 11 || WHY DOES GOD BRING AFFLICTION TO HIS PEOPLE?

Read : I Peter 1: 3-7

“In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.” - I Peter 1: 6

When God tests us, He put us into the furnace. He does not do that to destroy us, or to hurt or harm us. But He wants us to become pure gold, and that is the way He can do. That is what develops Christian character. At the time of testing, the dross is drawn off and the precious gold appears. That is God’s method and His training in His School. All God plans and performs here is preparation for what He has in store for us in heaven. Nobody yet knows all that is in store for us in heaven, but this we do know - that the life here is a school in which God trains us for our future in eternity. This explains the presence of trials in our lives. They are God’s tools in the school of Christian experience.

Trials also prepare us for spiritual growth or even help to prevent us from sinning.  God gives affliction to purge out our sin, our laziness, luxury, pride and love of the world.  The eye though a tender part - yet when infected, we put some strong medicines into it to purge out the disease.  Just so, though we are dear to Him as the apple of His eye - yet when sin begins to grow in us, He will apply strong medicine of affliction to purge out the disease.  Dear friends, is God bending, shaping or polishing us right now?  What is our attitude?  Are we grumbling, moaning and complaining about the process?  Let us not be distressed.
“Every cross is a message from God, and intended to do us good in the end,” writes J.C. Ryle.  Trouble may roar upon us but it cannot devour us.  God’s grace is there for us in abundance.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I understand that trials are continually necessary and inevitable. They are always with divinely purpose, not to destroy me but to refine me. So let me not become weary in my affliction, but trust You to give me more and more grace every moment. Amen.
