Friday, January 17 || NEW BEGINNING BRINGS NEW HOPE

While serving as missionaries in Peru, South America, Ruth and Bill Conard began raising orchids. Orchids normally bloom only once a year – beautiful exotic blooms that last for about two to three months, after which the plant becomes dormant till the next season. After a few years, the couple had to move to Minnesota and life for both of them seemed to hit an all-time low both in the ministry as well as at home. As if coinciding with the situation, the orchid too stopped blooming. Tired of nurturing it for three years, Ruth removed it from its prominent place to a remote dark corner of the dining room and forgot about it. After a few weeks, one day she looked at it casually and was astonished to find the tiniest tinge of pale green among the sticks. Ruth wondered whether it was some sort of fungal growth. But amazingly, the plant did begin to grow again. Ruth said to Bill, “This is a sign from our loving God that He is restoring hope in our lives. We do have a future and a new beginning!” The day came when the orchid sent out a shoot and eventually the blossoms opened. The orchid kept blooming on and on, not just for three months, but for eighteen long months! And wonder of wonders – almost in pace with the blooming of that plant came new opportunities for Ruth and Bill to serve the Lord which in turn led them to reaping a rich harvest of souls for the Lord.

So dear friends, there must have been times in our lives when we had lost all hope. Let us not give up. Let us march on with courage and hope that the Lord whom we trust will increase our joy and peace multifold. He will certainly refresh and revive us all through the year!

PRAYER: Almighty God, blessed is the man whose hope is in You, because You will never disappoint or forsake him. Let me not look at my situation, but fix my eyes on You. You are a God of hope and I put my trust in You. Fill me with Your joy and peace. Revive me and refresh me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
