Friday, February 20 || DON’T COVER YOUR SINS. CONFESS THEM TO GOD

“... blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and

cleanse me from my sin.” - Psalm 51: 1,2

In David’s prayer here, first there is a simple cry for mercy. “Have mercy on me, O God.” (Psalm 51:1) This was his greatest need. He wanted to get clean of his sin, and so he pleaded for God’s mercy. The words represent his transgressions as all written down against him in the book of accounts, and he asked God to have them blotted out, erased and rubbed from the page. These verses tell how David talked about his sin as his own. “MY transgressions, MY iniquity, MY sin,” are the words he used. He did not try to put the blame of his wrongdoing on someone else, as our first parents did. (Genesis 3: 8-12) He did not say that the devil tempted him using the circumstances. He did not try in any way to explain his fall or hide in any measure the degree of his guilt. He frankly took the whole responsibility on himself. This shows the sincerity of his repentance.

Dear friends, all of us struggle with sin. Human nature pulls us down as gravity does. Sin defiles our entire person, making us dirty from inside out. Let us not hide our sins before God or cover them up. Let us not blame anyone or anything for our deeds, but let us own them and confess them to God. Unless we agree with Him that our actions are wrong, we will never be able to put them behind us. Let us, like David, approach God in brokenness and repentance. Let us ask Him to search our heart and bring to our mind anything that needs to be dealt with. When we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us from all our unrighteousness.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I confess what I have done is wrong in Your sight. I do not blame anyone or anything because I made the choice to do what I did. Have mercy on me, Lord. Cleanse me by the blood of Jesus. Blot out my sin, and give me a clear conscience.In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
