"Those who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not cleansed of their filth;" - Proverbs 30:12
Saul was a very zealous man, a staunch Jew. He thought he was actually doing God’s service by persecuting the church. According to his conscience, he was doing the right thing. He had known of the coming of Messiah from the scriptures, but he failed to recognize that Jesus was the promised Messiah. According to him, Jesus was crucified and dead. So when the disciples of Jesus preached that He rose again from the dead, Saul was furious and wanted to wipe out these “fanatics,’’ who preached “false doctrines” once for all. He received orders from the high priests and was on his way to Damascus to kill the followers of Jesus. But Jesus of Nazareth, whom he thought was dead, appeared to him and talked to him saying, “Saul, I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting!” Saul was astonished! His entire attitude towards Jesus changed instantaneously. He humbled himself and asked, “What shall I do Lord?” Before the awesome holiness of the presence of Jesus the Lord, all of Saul’s self-righteousness looked like filthy rags! Saul who was proud and arrogant, now became a broken vessel. He allowed himself to be moulded into a vessel of honor for God. What a transformation!
Dear friends, we think that we live righteous lives by going to church every Sunday, regularly reading the Bible and praying to God daily. But, let us know that these do not bring revival. These become just ritualistic acts if there is no true repentance in our hearts. Only if we have a personal encounter with Jesus, we would realize our true pitiable condition and that would result in our transformation.PRAYER: Heavenly Father, my heart is rigid with religious traditions, doctrines and certain rules and regulations. I think I am an eligible candidate of heaven but the pity is I have not yet had a personal encounter with the Lord. Break me and mould me, and use me as Your chosen vessel. Amen.
