“If my people, who are called by name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I ... will heal their land.” - II Chronicles 7:14

When God’s people plead for their country, the Lord has promised that He would certainly hear them and bless the land. In other words, revival begins with God’s people. But there are certain conditions which they should fulfill.

Firstly, they should humble themselves. Pride is one of the deadliest sins that is seen among God’s people. James 4:6 says, “God resists the proud.” There can be no real victory in any Christian’s life until he has victory over pride.

Secondly, God’s people should pray. Many of us pray only when we want something from the Lord. This is not the type of prayer that the Lord talks about here. But, He wants people to hunger and thirst for Him.

Selwyn Hughes writes that there were four ingredients in the prayers of great saints of Biblical times. They are selflessness, boldness, reasoned argument and specificity.

Thirdly, people of God should seek God’s face. Seeking God’s face goes side by side with admitting one’s guilt – in other words, repentance. Seeking God’s face often requires asking forgiveness from others. (Matthew 5:23,24; 6:14-15)

Lastly, they should turn from their wicked ways. In Psalm 66:18, the Psalmist says that if we cherish sin in our hearts, the Lord would not listen to us.

It is an undeniable fact that the basis for receiving God’s blessing is not merely confessing sins but relinquishing them completely.

Dear friends, the destiny of our country lies only in our hands.  We may be very small percentage, but when we humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways, we can surely bring a great revival in our land.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, on this Independence day, I pray with burden for Your blessing on my country, which is chained by Satan and corrupted by sin. Lord, let me not be a stumbling block. Help me to be steadfast in prayer, relinquish all my sinful ways, repent and seek Your face always. Heal my land, O Lord! Amen.
