“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” - Matthew 6: 33

The saints in the Bible were eager to let God have His way not their way, in their lives. They stirred themselves up as soon as dawn touched the sky in order to worship Him and seek His leading. For example, Abraham got up very early to stand before God. (Genesis 19: 27) Jacob in like manner arose from his pillar of stone early in the morning after having seen a vision of angels in the night. (Genesis 28: 18) Moses went early to meet the Lord at Sinai. (Exodus 34: 4) Joshua got up early in the morning when he prepared to capture Jericho (Joshua 6:12) and Gideon rose early when he made his way to examine the fleece that he had cast upon the ground to discern the Lord’s will. (Judges 6: 38) Regarding Hannah and Elkana, I Samuel I:19 says, “Early the next morning they arose and worshipped before the Lord.” Job left his warm bed early in the morning to offer sacrifices to the Lord for his children. (Job 1: 5) In Mark 16:2, John 20:1, Luke 24:1, Matthew 28:1, the faithful women who had followed the Saviour woke up at day break that they may go to the tomb on the first Easter morning.

Dear friends, does God have priority in all that we do?  Do we get up early in the morning to study God’s Word, to pray, and to seek His will?  Are we seeking first the gratification of self, men’s applause, hoarding of wealth - or the approval of the Savior?  Remember, to be faithful disciples of Jesus requires that we give Him top priority in all things, trusting Him fully to take care of our needs.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I understand that true success in life comes when I seek Your kingdom first and Your righteousness. Help me to put priority on daily Bible study and prayer, even if I must neglect some secondary things, which are of temporal value. Amen.
