Tuesday, June 16 Read: Deuteronomy 6:1-9, 20-25

“These commandments ... are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on

your children. ...” - Deuteronomy 6:6,7

Deuteronomy 6:1-9 is perhaps the most appropriate passage in the Scripture concerning godly home. It covers two main thoughts. First, parents themselves need to be completely devoted to God. Second, parents need to provide a totally Christian environment for their children. These are the twin goals toward which every parent need to strive. Having tasted God’s love personally we as parents are to incorporate them into our children’s minds. We are to do it diligently. Not only are we to teach them, but we are to talk with them about God and His attributes morning, noon and night. Every moment our conversation should acknowledge God, as we walk, or sit or whatever we do. Our life should be so full of God that it must be evident to our neighbors that we know God. When our children ask us why we are so zealous for God, and what is the meaning of the stipulations and laws the Lord our God has commanded us, then we should remind them that God in His grace, has brought us out of sin by His Son Jesus and we have to please Him by our obedience. Andrew Murray writes, “Nothing can be more inconsistent and vain than the attempt to teach others without teaching ourselves.” This holds good in a family. It is only the lesson I first teach myself that I can really teach my child.

So dear friends, as Christian parents first of all, let us give more importance to God’s Word so that we may be thoroughly equipped and then take all efforts to lead our children to God’s truth.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, let me read Your Word diligently and live according to what Your Word says. Let me teach Your Word to my children and explain to them Your faithfulness. Through our lives let us as a family exert a Christian witness in the neighborhood. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
